Little Cayman is the smallest of all
the three Cayman Islands, both in
square footage area and in its
population size. Little Cayman ia
approximately 87 miles northeast of
Grand Cayman and just five miles
west of Cayman Brac the second
largest of the three Cayman Islands.
Little Cayman has approximately a
population of 170 people and is in
fact less than ten square miles in
full area. Little Cayman is about
ten miles in length and one mile in
width. Little Cayman is almost at
sea level and is very flat. The
highest point on little Cayman is
just about 40 feet. Little Cayman is
a very famous location for scuba
diving. The most renowned Little
Cayman dive sites is Bloody Bay Wall
and Jackson's Bight. Both these

ocean floor dropping between a depth
of 15 feet to almost 5000 feet.

and souvenir store, but has several

Cayman has the largest red-footed
booby population of all the Cayman
Islands and in fact in the
Caribbean. The Little Cayman
location is designated an
environmental wetland and is
protected by the Cayman Islands
government.
Another natural species located on
Little Cayman is the rock iguana,
this reptile is preserved by the
Cayman Islands Government for
attraction purposes. Little Cayman’s
airport is called the Edward Bodden
Airfield. Little Cayman, along with
Cayman Brac, was discovered by
Christopher Columbus on May 10, 1503
. Since then the recorded population
of Little Cayman has not exceeded
200 people with the most prolific
times being during a strong winter
season in North America. Little
Cayman was first known as a fishing
village, then through the years
eventually became a tourist
destination complementing the other
Cayman Islands. The Cayman Islands
including Little Cayman was under
the control of Jamaica and was
eventually released to the British
control in 1962 when Jamaica
achieved independence. Little
Cayman, along with the other Cayman
Islands, Grand Cayman and Cayman
Brac is now a British dependency.
